About us

Founded in 2020, Dyneval emerged from two decades of scientific research by Dr Tiffany Wood and Dr Vincent Martinez, complex fluid physicists from the University of Edinburgh. Their breakthrough in measuring microscopic motion led to the development of Dynescan, the first technology capable of precisely assessing sperm motility over time. This innovation is transforming fertility management in livestock, supporting sustainable farming, food security, and methane reduction.

Since launching commercially in 2022, Dyneval platform technology has gained global recognition, winning several awards. With strong demand across IndiaSouth America, and Australia, the company is expanding its impact beyond agriculture, exploring applications in biotechnology, chemicals, and human fertility to drive a more efficient and sustainable future.

Core Technology

Dyneval’s core technology is based on applying methods from statistical physics to analyse the fluctuations in light intensity hitting each pixel of a video camera to measure key parameters such as diffusivity or swimming behaviour.   Due to the low magnification of Dyneval’s dynamic evaluation technique, structural changes are evident simultaneously at scales up to 1000 times larger. This combined approach offers a rich set of data that enables users to understand dynamics and interactions over a wide range of length scales in conditions that are inaccessible with other technologies. Our core-technology  shows unparalleled performance at high concentrations, in complex environments and with opaque particles.  Let us fulfil our purpose and support you to solve measurement challenges.

Our purpose

Dyneval provides hassle-free, high-precision measurements of motion and structure at the microscopic scale, empowering customers to optimise production efficiency through data-driven decision-making.

Our History

2020
Funded
Dyneval was incorporated

Founded by two physicists previously employed by the University of Edinburgh.

2021
Seed funding
Dyneval secures £1.87M

Dyneval raised an initial £1.3m of investment and £0.57m grant funding from Innovate UK to commercialise the technology for pen-side assessment of bull semen quality.

2022
Veterinary market
First product

The Dynescan semen analyser was launched to the Veterinary Market.

2023
New fertility marker
SML - Sustained Motility Lifetime

The concept of the Sustained Motility Lifetime (SML) was invented, and independent vets collected the first evidence that demonstrated that cow conception rates are correlated with extended SML.

2024
Multi-market opportunity
Global Demand for Dynescan sparks expansion

Interest in Dynescan semen analysis extended to sales in 11 countries around the world and an invitation to present a workshop at the National Animal Breeding Association conference in Wisconsin, USA.

2025
New Algorithm
Motile Cell Count

Algorithm designed to accurately quantify the number of motile cells in all types of sex-sorted semen
